The Economic Development Division's primary function is to create new value for the community through business expansion, attraction, and recruitment in an effort to diversify the Village’s tax base and provide new amenities that add to the overall quality of life for residents.
Plainfield is the sixth-fastest growing community in the State of Illinois according to the 2020 Census and the Village’s growth has continued. Over 500 new homes have been constructed in the Village since the completion of the census and over 800 new apartments are leasing in 2022. Located between three of the top five populations in Illinois, Plainfield is perfectly centered to capture customers and workforce alike with 15 drive time populations exceeding 300,000 people. - Over 250 new homes were built in 2020.
- Over 500 new apartments were built in 2021.
- New commercial projects include the Depot Drive Public-Private partnership, the Boulevard Place includes Costco which opened in late 2020, and the new Rod Baker Ford Dealership planned at the Prairie Creek Development, south of Meijer.
