The Village of Plainfield has Lake Michigan Water. The hardness of the water is 6.3 grains per gallon. If you have questions regarding Lake Michigan Water, please contact the Public Works Department at (815) 436-3577 or review the Water Quality Report. If you have water or sewer issues after hours or on the weekend, please call (815) 436-2341.

New Customers

To sign up for utilities (water, sewer, and garbage), please email the completed applicable Utility Service Application. Residents moving within the Village should ensure that any previous Village Utility Bills are paid before new service can be transferred into their name. New residents have 30 days to sign up for utilities.

Existing Customers

To close your water/utility service account, please contact the Utility Billing Department at (815) 439-4250 or via e-mail as soon as you have a closing/moving date. When calling or e-mailing, please provide the closing/moving date and a forwarding address.

Please note: Residential scavenger service is provided by Village Ordinance and is billed with the monthly water bill.

Water & Sewer Rates

Water bills are sent on a monthly basis and rates are calculated per 100 cubic feet (cf).

  • Water: $7.69 per 100 cf
  • Sewer: $4.08 per 100 cf
  • Capital Improvement Charge: $6.50/month (The capital charge funds the ongoing maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure.)

The minimum bill is 100 cf of Water and 300 cf of Sewer.

Senior Discount

The Village offers a 10% discount on the total monthly water, sewer, and capital charge to seniors who qualify for the “Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Exemption” on their property tax bill, as defined by the County Treasurer. Seniors who wish to apply for the discount must provide Utility Billing with a copy of their property tax bill, which lists the Freeze Exemption, via mail or in person. Mail water bill payments to the Village of Plainfield, P.O. Box 1206, Bedford Park, IL 60499-1206 or Village of Plainfield, 24401 W. Lockport Street, Plainfield, IL 60544.

Payments can also be dropped off at any of the convenient Plainfield locations listed below ON or BEFORE the due date.

  • Village Hall in person, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • 24-hour drop box in the parking lot of the Village Hall
  • Old National Bank, 24509 W. Lockport Street
  • BMO Harris Bank, 15101 S. Route 59

Utility Bill Direct Payment Form - Please complete this form and submit it to the Village, if you would like to have payment of your utility bill automatically debited from your bank account each month on the due date.

Please note: If you make a payment online through your banking institution, please allow 7–10 business days as most banks mail the Village a check.
