The Zoning Ordinance is Chapter 9 of the Municipal Code. It sets forth what types of uses are permitted in various zoning districts and establishes development standards, such as building height and setbacks, for each zoning district. It also contains the Village’s Site Plan Review (Article XIII), Landscaping (Article XIV), and Signs (Article XI).

 ZONING VERIFICATION LETTER

A Zoning Verification Letter is an official document which verifies the current zoning of a property. The letter acknowledges the known use, structure, building or lot either complies with or is legally nonconforming to the provisions of the Zoning Code.

Below are the requirements to request a zoning verification letter:
• $50.00 fee per address prior to the research for the letter is required. Payment can be made by mailing a check payable to the Village of Plainfield. Preparation of the letter will not begin until payment has been received.
• Requester may provide a copy of the draft letter along with information sought to include all questions needed to be addressed in the letter or complete a Zoning Verification Request form.
• Upon completion, the Village will email a Zoning Verification letter on Village letterhead and receipt to the requester.

Zoning Verification Letter requests are usually processed within ten (10) business days.

Please note the zoning verification letter request is not intended to provide any outstanding building and/or code enforcement violations, copies of certificates of occupancy, building permits, outstanding fees/fines, liens or other documents. Such requests should be made via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request online. Please contact the Planning Department at (815) 439-2824 or planning@goplainfield.com with any questions.

Fire code violations can be requested by contacting the Plainfield or Oswego Fire Protection Districts.
